Moths in a Sydney home are usually one of two jobs: pantry moths in dry goods, or clothes moths in wool, stored fabric and rarely used rooms. Treating the wrong one wastes time.
Extreme Pest Control NSW inspects and treats moth problems across Greater Sydney, starting with where larvae are actually feeding.
What a moth problem looks like
Pantry moths leave webbing in cereal, flour, rice, bird seed and pet food. Adults fly when cupboards open. The source is almost always a packet or bulk bag, sometimes in a garage or laundry as well as the kitchen.
Clothes moths prefer dark wardrobes, under furniture and stored wool. Damage appears as irregular holes in natural fibres. Adults are poor fliers and are often seen crawling rather than circling lights.
A general “moth spray” that ignores the infested food or the infested jumper will not finish either job.
Common signs
-
Webbing in food
Silk and larvae in dry goods, spices or pet food.
-
Holes in fabric
Damage to wool, cashmere, feathers or stored natural fibres.
-
Adult moths
Small moths in cupboards or dark rooms, sometimes plenty of them after dusk.
-
Larvae
Cream larvae in food or among fabric folds.
Spoiled food and damaged clothing
Pantry moths force you to throw out infested food and can spread to every dry-goods cupboard if bulk bags sit open.
Clothes moths damage items that are expensive or hard to replace, especially things stored and forgotten.
In small food businesses, pantry moths are a stock and hygiene issue.
How moth treatment works
We identify the type, find the source, and treat harbourages. Pantry jobs include stripping infested goods, treating cupboard voids, and advising on sealed storage. Clothes moth jobs include treating wardrobes, carpets at edges, and stored-goods areas, plus laundry and isolation of affected items.
Pheromone monitoring can help in some pantry situations. It is not magic; removing the food source still comes first.
You should expect to discard heavily infested packets. That is cheaper than treating the same kitchen three times.

FAQs
Is it pantry moths or clothes moths? +
Where you find larvae tells you a lot: food packets versus fabric. We confirm on inspection because adult moths are easy to mix up.
Do I need to empty every cupboard? +
Infested cupboards yes. We will tell you how far to go based on what we find rather than emptying the entire kitchen by default.
Will cedar blocks fix clothes moths? +
Scented products are not a reliable treatment for an active infestation. Cleaning, isolation of garments and targeted treatment are.
