Pest birds on Sydney buildings — especially pigeons on ledges, roofs and signs — create mess, blocked gutters and health concerns from droppings. Native birds are a different legal and ethical category. A responsible bird job starts with identifying the species and the roost, not installing spikes on every surface by default.
Extreme Pest Control NSW can inspect bird-related problems on homes and commercial buildings across Greater Sydney and discuss practical exclusion and clean-up options.
What a bird problem looks like
Pigeons loaf on parapets, air-conditioning plant, warehouse portal beams and residential roofs. Droppings accumulate, gutters block, and walkways become slippery.
Starlings and mynas use roof voids and signs. Nesting material blocks flues and gutters. Some of these species are introduced; others are native and protected.
Ultrasonic gadgets and fake owls rarely solve an established roost. Birds habituate. Exclusion, proofing and changing the ledge often work; theatre does not.
Common signs
-
Droppings
Build-up on ledges, below roosts, on solar panels or at entries.
-
Nesting material
Twigs in gutters, flues, signs or roof voids.
-
Noise at dawn
Regular roosting on the same building line each evening.
-
Blocked gutters
Overflow during rain from nests and droppings.
Mess, safety and the law
Droppings are a slip hazard and an unpleasant hygiene issue at entries and outdoor dining.
Many native birds are protected in NSW. We will not treat a protected nest as if it were a pigeon roost. Timing and methods have to match the species.
Poorly installed spikes or netting can injure birds and fail in wind. Installation quality matters.
How bird control works
Inspection identifies species, roost points and why the building is attractive. Options can include proofing, netting, ledge modification, and cleaning of contaminated areas with appropriate precautions.
We do not promise to “remove all birds from the suburb”. The building in front of us is the job.
Where a specialist installer or a wildlife permit is required, we will say so rather than improvising an illegal or unsafe method.

FAQs
Can you remove a nest with chicks in it? +
That depends on the species and NSW rules. We will not break the law to clear a nest. Timing the job outside breeding, or using lawful methods, is part of doing this properly.
Do spikes always work? +
They work on some ledges when installed correctly. Birds can sit in front of cheap, sparse spikes. We will say if a different proofing method is more suitable.
Will you clean the droppings? +
Cleaning can be part of a quoted job. Heavy accumulations need the right PPE and disposal. Ask when you enquire.
